It’s Not About You Or Your Online business!

There’s something I need to get off my chest before I go any further with this post. It’s something that’s very important–a basic idea that seems to get lost in the hustle and bustle of starting or growing your online business:

“You are not your website” and “It’s not about you”. It’s time to start caring about your online customers before they find someone else who will.The Internet and the mobile airwaves have become the preferred channels over which we distribute messages and connect with global markets and customers online. The Internet is the highway and websites and mobile apps, are only communication vehicles to deliver your ideas, products and services to satisfy your customer’s needs. These provide a great way to represent yourself in the market but they aren’t you and your customers care little unless there’s something in it for them.

It’s not about the online website…or the app… or you for that matter…it’s about them, your customers and what they want and need. It has always been about them, recent changes in technology have enabled online customers to finally be in control and for everyone else to step up their game and deliver on their promise or they will simply do business with those who will.

In today’s Internet landscape, when your vision, purpose and your small business is only about you and what you want, most likely you have not done your homework to proceed further. Look around, do you hear the chatter?

We’re talking here about the core of your online business, the soul of what you’re doing, what you stand for or represent to the audience. What needs or wants are you satisfying? What is your purpose and drive?. If you’re not sure of the answers to these questions, don’t launch your online business, don’t expand, don’t try to sell products or services…not until you find your passion and purpose.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see that basing your startup or online business on just one distribution channel is not a viable situation and is truly dependent on many factors such as who, what, where, when and why. Never use technology for technology sake. It’s a tool not the means to your online success. Contribute something that matters.

Channels change. Technology changes. Needs change…evolve with it and you won’t be left behind. 

Build a flexible online business that changes with your customers’ needs and grows with you.
